Investment Goals
Investment Goals are the core of how Franc helps you build wealth over time. They allow you to set clear targets, choose an investment strategy that matches your timeline, and invest regularly into a diversified mix of funds.
What is an Investment Goal?
An Investment Goal is a personalised investing objective with a specific target amount and timeline. Examples include:
- Investing for a deposit on a home
- Building a future education fund
- Planning a big life event or long-term project
You can create one or more goals and name them whatever you like. Each goal is treated separately, with its own investment strategy and performance tracking.
How the investment strategy works
When you create a goal, Franc recommends a strategy based on:
- Your goal timeline – how far in the future you'll need the money
- Your risk comfort level – how much market movement you're comfortable with
Based on these, your money is allocated across three key funds:
- Allan Gray Money Market Fund (low risk)
- Satrix Top 40 ETF (local equity, medium to high risk)
- Sygnia Itrix S&P 500 ETF (offshore equity, medium to high risk)
The proportions depend on your time horizon:
- Short-term (0–3 years): more in money market
- Medium-term (3–5 years): balanced across all three
- Long-term (5+ years): more in local and offshore equity
This strategy can be adjusted if your timeline or risk comfort changes.
Contribution and flexibility
- You can contribute any amount, as often as you like
- You're not locked in and can withdraw at any time
- Even if your investment strategy includes equity, if the offshore equity proportion of your deposit is below the Sygnia Itrix S&P 500 ETF minimum (R200), your money will be invested in the local equityfund.
Tracking and managing goals
You can view the performance of each goal individually in the app, including your contributions, returns, and progress toward your target.
You can also:
- Edit your goal name, image, target, or timeline
- Delete a goal if it's no longer needed
Franc makes it easy to manage your goals in one place, without needing to understand complex investment products or platforms.
